100% Grass-Fed & Regenerative Farms

All our animal products are sourced from 100% grass-fed and regenerative farms where the cattle spend as much time outdoors as weather conditions allow. We’re huge proponents of regenerative farming and doing things the old school (right) way. That’s why we only partner with farms where the cattle are 100% grass-fed and finished and they’re either organic certified or farm to an organic standard. This means that they don’t use any chemical inputs (pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc) or hormones to speed up growth. The farmers also really care about their animals so only use antibiotics when an animal’s life is threatened, unlike in factory farming, where these need to be routinely used just to keep animals alive. Also farming this way is not only the best for animal welfare, but has been shown to increase soil health, wildlife biodiversity, sequester more carbon into the soil than it gives off, improve water holding capacity (preventing flooding) and support smaller scale family runs farms all whilst working in harmony with nature.

Beef Organs, Colostrum & Collagen

5 key benefits

Learn how these powerhouse REAL food supplements could change your health, exercise performance and overall wellbeing.

1.) Overall energy & wellbeing

We consider Beef Organs to be Nature’s Multivitamin as Heart, Liver and Kidney are all incredible natural sources of B-vitamins (especially B12) and the mineral Copper, which are key to cellular energy production. These nutrients work by converting the food you eat into the right format within the body to enable them to be used as energy. Beef Organs are also a really good source of heme-iron (the form that is most easily absorbed by the body), which is essential for the production of haemoglobin. This is a protein present within red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body and is vital for overall energy production and cognitive function. When we the body doesn’t have enough red blood cells, this is called Anemia and is often associated with tiredness, weakness and shortness of breath.

2) immunity

These three products all work together to support immunity. Beef Organs are an amazing source of the most absorbable form of Vitamin A (Retinol), which aids in the development of immune cells, including T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells, essential for fighting infections and maintaining overall immune function. Both Collagen and Colostrum support tight junctions within the gut lining, which when intact, prevent allergens, bacteria and viruses from getting into the blood stream. That said, the key component here is Colostrum powder, which is packed with immunoglobulins and macrophage stimulating factor to fight off illness and infection. There really isn’t another natural supplement that stacks up to Colostrum when it comes to immune health.

3.) Skin Elasticity / Tone & Strong Hair & Nails

Making up roughly 80% of our skin, Collagen has become well known for its ability to improve elasticity and tone, giving skin a hydrated look. Also, being an intrinsic part of our bones, Collagen supports hair and nail growth as well as strength.

The growth factors within Colostrum and the amino acids within Collagen work together to keep your gut lining intact, preventing leaky gut. Leaky gut also known as intestinal permeability is becoming more and more common in due to ever increasing diet and lifestyle stressors in the modern world. When we’re stressed, the naturally tight junctions within our stomach lining become loose enabling things bacteria and too large food particles to get into our symptom. This can cause a wide variety of issues but common symptoms are; bloating, skin flare ups (psoriasis, etc), food sensitivities, white tongue coating, bad breath, dandruff, sugar cravings, excess thirst, constipation, loose stools, gas and brain fog. Leaky gut also impairs our ability to absorb nutrients and as the saying goes, ‘it’s not what you eat, but what you absorb that counts’. This refers to the fact that you can be eating X, Y or Z gold standard food, but if your digestive system isn’t operating properly, you won’t be able to absorb the nutrients from it. If we want to thrive in terms of health and performance as human beings, it’s vital that we’re absorbing micronutrients in optimal amounts. This is because they dictate the language of our cells and are essential for every function in the human body.

5.) joint health & lean muscle growth

Being a major component of the human body (it makes up roughly 30% of total body protein), Collagen is the main structural component in connective tissues such as tendons and ligaments. The body is highly intelligent and can repair itself if given the right raw materials in combination with rest. Therefore consuming collagen gives your body what it needs to re-build or maintain these connective elements and in turn can improve joint health and mobility. In addition to this, Colostrum is a great source of protein whilst also containing peptides, growth factors and nutrients, which support joint health as well as aid in lean muscle growth.

Us vs. them

For 99.9% of our existence, humans prized organ meat, colostrum and collagen (from bone broth) for their ability to have us feeling at our best and the fact they’ve dropped out of our modern diet is a key reason why we’re plagued with some of the chronic dysfunctions of today; lack of energy, brain fog, getting ill often, bloating, digestive issues, aching joints and brittle hair and nails. It’s not natural to need a coffee to get out of bed in the morning or to experience digestive problems after you eat and by simply putting back in some of these nutrients that the modern diet leaves out, it’s amazing how energy levels and overall vitality can recover.

Over recent years, classic supplement companies have tried to put a bandaid over this problem with synthetic multivitamins. However, these often contain less absorbable forms of nutrients and come in ratios the body doesn't understand. That's why we encourage people to get their nutrients from real superfoods like organs, raw dairy and bone broth and we've created our real food supplements as a back up for those who don't like the taste, don't have the time or can't access really high quality grass-fed and regeneratively farmed animal foods.

Why we need supplements in the modern world…

We get asked this all the time and I think it’s a very valid question… ⁣If we’re eating a real food diet then shouldn’t we be getting all the micronutrients we need from that? ⁣⁣

Although this may well have been the case for our great grandparents, the unfortunate fact is that the modern world is making it harder day by day for the following reasons:

🌿 Soil Health // the use of chemicals has led to the destruction of the top soils micro-organisms. If you’re not eating organic fruit and vegetables that come from a proper farm that cares for it’s soil then the likelihood is that the micronutrients that you expect to be in that food aren’t all going to be there. ⁣

🦠 The Gut Microbiome // if you’re experiencing any gut issues or symptoms of gut inflammation like; unexplained brain fog, dry eyes or multiple allergies and food sensitivities, then you’re probably not effectively absorbing all the nutrients that you’re eating. ⁣

🚗 Environmental Toxins // we are exposed to car fumes, pesticides, heavy metals and chemicals in perfume, cleaning products and ‘air freshener’ all the time in the 21st century. These toxins can build up in our bodies and push vital nutrients out. ⁣

💆 Stress // when the body is under stress, we excrete key micronutrients such as magnesium, which paradoxically we need in abundance during this time as it helps combat stress. ⁣

Therefore even when you’re eating a whole food diet, you need to be ensuring you’re including really dense sources of micronutrients such as organ meat from grass-fed and regenerative farms to make up for the realities of the modern world.

Founder Message

In 2017 both Josh and myself (Izzi) were working in London. Josh had a stereotypically “good” job in finance but both of us were unhappy and starting to really resent London life. We went travelling for 7 months and started to think about what we wanted to do with our lives and how we could break out of the system we found ourselves in. India was the first place we visited and if you’ve been, you’ll know how long train rides are over there! Two sleeper trains later and Josh had written down his idea for APE in one of my notebooks. We sat on the idea for the rest of the trip, developing recipes for what would become our launch product, the original Keto protein bar.

When we got back to our small flat in London, we started going for it, thinking it would take off in no time. Luckily I worked as a nanny so I had time to make the bars in the day in our kitchen and we had some very kind friends who bought them to support us. Not long after that we moved out of London and to a more rural area in the South West. This was really the beginning of four very hard, long years of trying to figure it out, making so many mistakes and lots of late nights. Although it was tough, it was equally rewarding and when we moved to Devon in 2021, being able to access Dartmoor and cold water swimming became our saving grace. Through all of the challenges starting a company throws at you, we were finally carving out a life we felt huge amounts of value and connection within. Reconnecting with the landscape of the UK was so supportive and we both look back with really happy memories at the places we often visited.

APE started from Josh’s interest and love for truly healthy foods but as we grew as people and our perception widened it became so much more than that. Stepping out of the system, reclaiming sovereignty over our own health (body & mind) and reconnecting with nature is interwoven throughout APE’s message and products. Everything we do is with these pillars held in mind. There is an ever growing debate over how to be the 'most healthy' and live the 'most sustainably' but when we strip it back, it really can be so simple.⁣ Remove the barriers that wedge themselves between us and nature; fake food, polluted water, virtual realities and concrete jungles. There has never been a more important time to discover what’s real and step fully into it.

We thank you all so much for being part of our community and vision. Without the support of like minded people like yourselves none of this would be possible.

Here’s to more life,

Izzi & Josh

It depends on your specific requirements really... the Beef Organs contain a wider variety of micronutrients including some more unique nutrients like Selenium (great for immunity and thyroid function) and CoQ10, which is great for cardiovascular health. Whereas the Beef Liver contains less of a variety but the nutrients it does contain (Vitamin A, all the B vitamins, copper, etc) are in a greater density. Personally I usually opt for the Beef Organs as I have a history of poor heart health in my family and I generally recommend this to men over the Beef Liver as they need more heart support. Whereas for women I usually recommend the Beef Liver. That said, it might be worth trialing one and then the other and seeing which works best for you.

Every body is different and every pregnancy is different, so when it comes to delicate situations like this, we like to refer to the experts. Registered Dietician/Nutritionist, Certified Diabetes Educator, research, and author Lily Nichols, in her book "Real Food for Pregnancy: the science and wisdom of optimal prenatal nutrition says "Liver is one of the richest food sources of folate and vitamin B12, both key in maintaining healthy red blood cells and fostering healthy brain development in your baby. Many of you reading this may have been specifically warned NOT to consume liver during pregnancy, precisely because it is rich in vitamin A...However, we now know that naturally occurring vitamin A does NOT exert toxicity, particularly when consumed with adequate vitamin D and vitamin K2, nutrients that are also found in abundance in liver. This illustrates perfecting why obtaining nutrients from food is far safer than getting them from supplements". (p. 33-34). She goes on to say "liver and supplements are not equivalent...Advice to pregnant women on the consumption of liver based on the reported Vitamin A toxicity supplements, should be reconsidered" (p.34). Finally, Lily states " when buying liver, remember that source matters. This organ is designed to filter toxins and store nutrients, so ideally, seek liver from healthy, pasture-raised animals. If you're especially averse to the taste, you can purchase desiccated liver from grass-fed cows in capsule form and take it as a supplement" (p.35)
