Is There A Problem With Veganuary?

Posted by Josh Gape on

A massive issue we see with Veganuary is that it encourages people to buy fruit and vegetables on mass without considering how they're grown... ⁣⁣

If plant foods aren’t organic and from regenerative farming practices, they are detrimental to human, animal and planetary health in a variety of ways: ⁣⁣

- Non-organic produce is subject to pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other artificial chemicals. These have been linked to a huge number of health issues for humans including destroying the gut microbiome, degrading the gut wall (causing leaky gut) and declining sperm counts. ⁣

- These chemicals also kill the microorganisms within soil, reducing the nutrient and medicinal quality of the food grown on it. For example the magnesium in vegetables reduced by 35% from 1930-1980 in the UK. ⁣

- The death of the soils microbiome depletes its ability to sequester carbon and water, resulting in more green house gas emissions and flooding. ⁣⁣

- When pesticides run off into nearby rivers due the soils water holding capacity being degraded, this wreaks havoc on aquatic ecosystems and kills wildlife. It’s also been observed that birds, reptiles and amphibians often die when they eat insects that are contaminated with pesticides. It’s estimated that plant agriculture kills roughly 7.4 billion animals per year. ⁣

It’s our belief that the conversation around diet has become too focused on which diet is the best as opposed to food quality in general. ⁣

Real food from regenerative farming practises should be the cornerstone for any and all nutritional approaches. ⁣⁣

If you want to learn more about the important of soil health, eating organic and grass-fed / finished beef, we've got a page 'Why Regenerative & Organic Farming' dedicated to it.
