If I already take the protein, do I need to take the collagen too?

This all depends upon your goals. The beef protein works primarily to contribute to the growth of muscle mass and maintenance of normal bones. As well as helping to increase your protein intake through the day. However it does naturally contain collagen too.

The collagen is purely 100% hydrolysed collagen, so it gives you a more concentrated dose of this abundant structural protein, which forms part of the connective framework found in skin, hair, nails, tendons, ligaments, bones and the gut lining.

So essentially, it all depends upon your needs.

Also, traditionally we would have eaten a diet really high in collagen, which is not common in the modern world today - on that basis, taking both of the products at different times of day or even together helps mimic our ancestral nutrient intake to support optimal nutrition. This is something we do personally.

Does your collagen contain vitamin C?

We don’t add synthetic vitamin C to our collagen as this isn't how we would have consumed collagen ancestrally. Although there’s a lot of hype at the moment about vitamin C being important for collagen synthesis, research shows that as long as you’re getting sufficient vitamin C in your diet already, there’s no need to consume it directly alongside collagen to make it work better for you.

Many other companies add vitamin C to collagen because it’s a cheap way to bulk out the packet, and it sounds good to customers.

There are plenty of other co-factors that are important for collagen synthesis as well as vitamin C, such as vitamin A, zinc, copper, vitamin D, and B vitamins, all of which you can obtain through an animal-based diet and many of which you can get from our Beef Organs capsules.

Do you test your Collagen powder for heavy metals and chemical compounds?

Yes, here are the results from our latest batch: Ash content = 0.2 %, Heavy Metals = ≤ 50 ppm, Arsenic = ≤ 1 ppm, Cadmium = ≤ 0.5 ppm, Chromium = ≤ 10 ppm, Copper = ≤ 30 ppm, Mercury = ≤ 0.15 ppm, Lead = ≤ 3 ppm, Zinc = ≤ 30 ppm, Sulphur dioxide (SO2) = ≤ 10 ppm, Peroxide (as H2O2) = ≤ 10 ppm

These results are well below the legal limit and very safe to consume. All foods naturally contain small amounts of heavy metals like are seen here. However, it's important to avoid the consumption of foods that have unnaturally high levels.

1) Oral Collagen Peptide Supplementation & Skin Hydration / Dermal Network — Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (2015)

Authors’ conclusion (summary):
Across two placebo-controlled trials, the authors report that oral collagen peptide supplementation significantly increased skin hydration (after 8 weeks), increased dermal collagen density, and reduced fragmentation of the dermal collagen network (with effects observed from ~4 weeks and persisting through 12 weeks). They conclude that oral collagen peptides were effective at improving hallmarks of skin ageing in their study context.

2) Collagen Supplementation & Skin / Orthopaedic Outcomes (Review) — Heliyon (2023)

Authors’ conclusion (summary):
The review concludes that published studies report beneficial effects of collagen supplementation on skin outcomes(e.g., wrinkles, elasticity, hydration and measures related to collagen content/synthesis) and on orthopaedic outcomes (e.g., measures related to bone strength/density/mineral mass and joint symptoms such as pain/stiffness/mobility and function). The authors also emphasise that future studies are needed to clarify mechanisms (signalling pathways) and address remaining gaps.

3) Human Clinical Research on Collagen & Sleep - European Journal of Nutrition (2023)

Authors’ conclusion (summary):

The authors conclude that short-term supplementation with collagen peptides before bedtime was associated with a reduction in sleep fragmentation, reflected by fewer awakenings during the night in physically active males with sleep complaints. They also report some improvement in next-day cognitive performance measures. However, overall sleep duration and sleep efficiency were not significantly altered, and the authors note that further research is needed to confirm these findings and clarify underlying mechanisms.

4) Collagen Peptides & Bone / Musculoskeletal Health (Meta-analysis) — Frontiers in Nutrition (2025)

Authors’ conclusion (summary):
This meta-analysis concludes that collagen peptide supplementation—especially when combined with calcium and vitamin D—is associated with improvements in bone mineral density (notably spine and femoral neck), plus consistent positive effects on bone turnover markers and some muscle performance outcomes. The authors conclude that daily collagen peptide supplementation over an eight-week period was associated with self-reported improvements in mild digestive symptoms, such as bloating, among the participants who completed the study.
