Grass-Fed Colostrum

Colostrum is the ‘first milk’ produced by cattle in the hours following their infants birth to develop the calfs immune system and trigger growth. Our colostrum is from grass-fed / finished cattle and is ethically sourced from the surplus left after the calf has been fully nourished. We gently spray dry the milk into a powder, which is packed with nutrients, peptides and growth factors. This makes it an incredibly potent natural supplement that may help support immunity, lean muscle / connective tissue growth and gut health. Each tub contains 150g which equates to 30-50 servings.

About the product

Grass-Fed Colostrum

Utilising everything an animal had to offer was a way of life for humans for the majority of our existence up until recent history. We appreciated that animals gave their lives to ensure us as humans could survive and thrive so we left nothing go to waste. Also, because of our deep connection with the earth and our own bodies we intuitively knew just how nutrient dense some of the more unique animal products, such as colostrum, are. Fast forward to today and the immense power of colostrum has somewhat been forgotten. What was once highly sought after is now rarely consumed. We created our grass-fed colostrum powder to help people reintroduce this ancestral superfood, loaded with nutrients, peptides and growth factors in an easy to consume way.

  • How to use

    How to use

We recommend mixing Colostrum with cold liquids, for example in a shake with milk or yoghurt in order to keep it as nutritionally dense as possible. Using a blender for this will help prevent it becoming lumpy. Alternatively, you may add the powder to a very small amount of liquid first to make it into a paste, then top it up with more water.  Or you can even just spoon it into your mouth - it's really dry at first but this is actually my favourite way and we've had a bunch of customers say the same.
Depending on what you're using Colostrum for will dictate the dose:
    - Boost Immunity = 3-8 grams per day
    - Heal Gut Lining / Support Connective Tissue = 5-10 grams per day
    - Aid lean muscle growth / bone health = 10 grams per day

  • When to use

    When to use

Colostrum can be taken at any time throughout the day. However if you’re using it to heal leaky gut, we recommend taking a portion first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and then another portion in the evening with your final meal of the day. If it’s being used to boost immunity, bone health or support connective tissue, any time throughout the day works. Whereas if you’re using it to aid with lean muscle growth, it’s best consumed post training. That said, it’s best to let your nervous system switch out of training mode and into rest mode to maximise absorption. Therefore generally it’s a good idea to give it 30 minutes after training to let your body settle before taking it.

FAQs Questions

What are the growth factors within colostrum?

Insulin-like Growth Factor- I & II (IGF-I & -II) - The primary growth factors in colostrum, these have been shown to build lean muscle mass, balance blood sugar and stimulate the synthesis and repair of DNA. Transforming Growth Factors Alpha & Beta (TGF-a & b) - Stimulates the growth of connective tissue, including bone / cartilage and plays a key roll in wound healing and gut repair. Having a properly formed gut wall supports digestion, immunity, neurotransmitter production and detoxification. Epithelial Growth Factor (EGF) - A primary driver in the maintenance and repair of skin, including wound healing.

Why is colostrum so good for immunity?

It contains: Immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, IgM, IgD, IgE) - Antibodies that play an integral role in immunity. Proline-rich Polypeptides (PRPs) - Crucial for thymus gland support and modulating the immune response, PRPs have been shown to bolster a weakened immune response or balance out an overactive immune system. Lactoferrin - an iron-binding protein which helps a critical roll in immunity due its antibacterial and antiviral properties. Colony-stimulating Factor-1 (macrophage colony-stimulating factor) - Stimulates the production of macrophages, which are immune cells that consume and dispose of dead pathogens. Cytokines, Interleukins, Interferons, and Lymphokines - Known to enhance T cell activity, antibody production and act as a potent anti-inflammatory. Lactalbumins - trigger apoptosis (cell death), which clears out cancerous cells and viruses.

Do you pasteurise your colostrum?

Cattle udders can be contaminated with E-coli, salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria from manure. Therefore our colostrum is gently pasteurised to kill any pathogens, whilst not denaturing the colostrum.

What about BSE?

Our colostrum is produced exclusively from herds which are certified free from BSE.

What about the calf?

A cow produces enough colostrum and milk for twins, although this is very rare. Our colostrum is ethically sourced from the surplus left after the calf has been fully nourished.

What is the IgG percentage of your colostrum powder?

IgG is 30% of protein content or roughly 17% of total weight. Therefore in one 5 gram serving of our Colostrum powder you'll get around 750mg of immunoglobulins.

How does Colostrum work?

The immunoglobulins in Colostrum are effective at the outset of usage for eliminating colonising gut pathogens like Clostridium difficile or Candida but once this is achieved the bioactivity is more about repair factors and lactoferrin to restore the microvilli of the small intestine. In short, Colostrum can help rid the gut of negative gram bacteria and then reinforces the gut wall, either protecting from or reversing leaky gut.

Will taking your supplements break a fast?

If you are doing a water fast with zero calories, then they will break the fast, as a serving contains a very small amount of calories. However, if your fasting goals are autophagy or healing your gut microbiome, you can take the supplements without negatively impacting those goals.
